“Duty to warn of violent acts of client; civil liability under the occupations and professions law”
Any licensed professional qualified to treat people with substance use disorders has a duty to warn of a client’s violent behavior when the client has communicated to the person a serious threat of physical violence against a clearly identified victim or a serious threat of substantial damage to property.
