Treatment records (for mental illness, and drug/alcohol abuse) must be retained for 7 years after the treatment has been completed. For treatment records of minors, the record must be kept until the minor is 19 years old or for 7 years after the treatment, whichever is longer. Records that are being audited must be retained until the audit is completed. Records relating to legal actions must be retained until the action is completed. Billing records must be retained for the time required by the statute.
