Resident's rights and services.
A nursing facility resident has the following rights:
- Choose an attending physician;
- Choose a pharmacy to obtain medications;
- Be fully informed in advance about care and treatment;
- Participate in planning care and treatment;
- Consent to or refuse treatment;
- Self-administer drugs if the interdisciplinary team determines that the practice is safe;
- Access the resident’s records within 1 business day upon an oral or written request;
- Obtain copies of the resident’s records within 2 business days;
- Confidentiality of personal records;
- Examine the results of the most recent federal and state surveys, including the annual survey and any subsequent complaint investigations, and any correction plans prompted by the surveys; and
- Voice grievances regarding treatment.
