The following entities may use information obtained by a peer review committee for a legitimate business purpose:
- Health care provider;
- Peer review committee;
- Governing boards of a hospital, preferred provider organization, or health maintenance organization.
Legitimate business purposes include:
- Quality review;
- Utilization review;
- Risk management and incident reporting;
- Safety, prevention and correction;
- Reduction of morbidity and mortality;
- Scientific purposes;
- Legal defense
