“Purposes of system”
The birth defects information system may be used to performing the follow in regards to the congenital abnormalities, stillbirths, and abnormal conditions that constitute the birth defect:
- Identify and describe the conditions;
- Detect trends and epidemics;
- Quantify morbidity and mortality rates;
- Stimulate epidemiological research focused on birth defects;
- Identify risk factors;
- Facilitate intervention in and prevention of birth defects;
- Facilitate access to treatment;
- Inform and educate the public.
