Oral and written informed consent of parent or guardian required for use of psychotropic medication on minor under sixteen.
Requires mental health care providers to obtain a parent’s informed consent–orally and in writing–prior to administering psychotropic medications or other treatments to a minor child under the age of 16. Permits providers to administer treatment without a parent’s consent if parental consent cannot be obtained within a reasonable amount of time and the provider documents the efforts made to obtain consent in the patient’s medical record. Requires providers to include a parent’s informed consent in the patient’s medical record.
