Written estimate of charges; when required; notice
Hospitals and ambulatory surgical centers must provide a written estimate of the average charges for health services related to a particular diagnostic condition or medical procedure to a patient or prospective patient upon written request. The written request must also include a written diagnosis by a medical professional. The patient may also include his or her sex, age, co-morbidities, other procedures to be done, and other information that may be helpful in providing a more accurate estimate. The written estimate must be provided within 7 business days of receiving the request.
Hospitals and ambulatory surgical centers must provide written notice that the facility will provide a written estimate for procedures. The notice may be included in advertising materials or be posted in the facility itself.
