Standards of Operation, Care, and Treatment
Section 9-006 establishes standards for a hospital’s governing authority, medical staff, staff requirements, patient rights, record keeping, quality assurance & performance improvement, infection control, and environmental services. The record keeping section requires hospitals to maintain confidential medical records for at least ten years after a patient’s discharge or three years after a child patient reaches the age of eighteen. Each medical record must include information such as the patient’s identity, diagnosis, and lab reports.
