The Department of Community Health (“department”) must create a “standardized, written summary” of the information physicians must provide to patients with “advanced illnesses” regarding their decision-making ability. The department must consult with appropriate organizations while creating the summary and ensure that the summary uses nontechnical terms so that patients, their surrogates, and advocates can understand the information. The department must distribute the summary to the Michigan board of medicine and the Michigan board of osteopathic medicine and surgery. These boards then must notify physicians, within 10 days, of the summary’s availability.
