Hospitals must maintain medical records for all new mothers. The records must contain information related to complications with past births and to the current pregnancy. The records must also include admission examination information, such as temperature, pulse, weight, position of the fetus, and a urine analysis, among others. The physician must also sign a report prior to the mother being discharged and must place the report in the mother’s medical records.
