An insurer is not allowed to disclose directly or through an affiliate, a policy number or similar account code to any nonaffiliated third party for telemarketing, direct mail marketing, or other marketing. This prohibition does allow insurers to share account information with consumer reporting agencies. However, insurers may disclose policy or account numbers to any of the following:
- To the insurer’s service provider for marketing of the insurer’s own products;
- To an insurer that is a producer for the marketing of the insurer’s own products;
- To a participant in an affinity or similar program, where participants are identified to other customers.
