Physicians should maintain patient medical records for as long as necessary for treatment purposes, and for any additional time as is legally required.
Physicians must provide access to copies of medical records upon request of the patient. The physician may require the patient to pay the reasonable cost of reproducing the record.
Patients must be given a reasonable opportunity to transfer their medical records upon the retirement, death, termination, or relocation of a physician.
