Instructions for handling medical records upon discontinuation of medical practice
When a health care provider discontinues medical practice, the health care provider must immediately secure the medical records until the medical records are:
- Transferred to another health care provider who will be assuming the medical practice;
- Given to the patient;
- Transferred to a new health care provider at the patient’s direction; or
- Destroyed.
