This will open in a new window
The Human Services Fraud Investigation Unit is a part of the Department of Human Services. The Unit is to investigate reported acts of fraud relating to funds administered, held, or disbursed by the Department. The Unit is to look into acts of fraud involving recipients of medical assistance, providers, and vendors. Once the Unit determines that an act of fraud or attempted fraud has occurred, it must report the incident in writing to the Attorney General. The law also stipulates that the Unit may not use a private auditor in conducting audits, unless it is to audit an out of state provider. The Department may also be authorized to withhold payment or sanction a Medicaid provider in order to recover for overpayment.
