Hawaii permits the practice of telemedicine by licensed physicians. Hawaii defines “telemedicine” as treating or evaluating a patient through the use of telecommunications services (e.g. web conferencing, real-time video, etc.). Medical reports that result from telemedicine services are considered part of a patient’s medical record and must therefore be made available to patients and held in compliance with applicable state and federal privacy laws.
