A hospital must retain its patient records for 7 years following the discharge of the patient. In the case of a minor patient, the records must be retained for 2 years after the patient reaches the age of 19 years or until 7 years following the discharge of the patient, whichever is longer. Records consisting of X-ray film must be retained for 5 years. If a hospital ceases operation, it must make arrangements for preservation of its records.
