Hospital Inpatient and Outpatient Service Data Sets Filing Description - 90-590-241 Me. Code R. § 2

Every hospital must file with the Maine Health Data Organization or its designee a completed hospital inpatient data set and a completed hospital outpatient data set for every service provided to each patient. Hospital inpatient data pertains to the information generated at the time of discharge which is associated with patients who are provided with room, board, and continuous nursing service in an area of the hospital where patients generally stay more than twenty-four hours. Hospital outpatient data pertains to information which is associated with patients who receive services in a formally organized ambulatory department, clinic, provider-based practice considered a department of the hospital, and/or other departments of a hospital when those patients are not considered to be inpatients.
The filing period for each inpatient discharge record must be filed no later than 90 days following the calendar quarter in which the discharge occurred. The filing period for each outpatient service record must be filed no later than 90 days following the calendar quarter in which the service occurred.
