All licensed hospitals in Maine are required to have a program to identify and prevent medical injuries or errors, including a professional competence committee (peer review) to review health care services rendered, a complaint or grievance mechanism, a system for continuous data collection of negative patient outcomes, and educational programs related to patient safety and medical injury prevention.
