“Medical review committee, immunity from liability under the torts law”
A hospital, ambulatory surgical center, or health maintenance organization’s medical review committee must screen the professional and medical competence of health care professionals. A member of a medical review committee is not civilly liable for any acts performed by the committee.
The proceedings and records of a medical review committee are exempt from discovery or introduction into evidence in any legal proceeding against a health care provider. However, a member of a medical review committee may be asked to testify on committee matters.
