“Restrictions on providing consent under the civil rights law”
Unless the principal expressly delegates such authority to the surrogate in writing, or a surrogate or proxy has sought and receive court approval, a surrogate or proxy may not provide consent for:
- Abortion, sterilization, electroshock therapy, psychosurgery, experimental treatments, or voluntary admission to a mental health facility; or
- Withholding or withdrawing life-prolonging procedures from a pregnant patient.
