A physician designated by the department of behavioral healthcare, developmental disabilities, and hospitals1 may “use every available means to ascertain the existence of any dangerous, infectious, or contagious disease….among inmates, prisoners, patients and pupils” at an institution and to investigate the source of infection. If ascertained, the source of the infection must be reported to the department of health.
