The Regional Ombudsman must:
- Provide residents with services that protect their health and welfare.
- Ensure that residents have access to representation and receive “timely responses” to complaints.
- Investigate resident complaints regarding actions or decisions that affect the resident’s health and welfare.
- Represent residents and applicants during agency proceedings.
- Review and comment on policy developments that may affect long-term care residents.
- “Support the development of resident and family councils.”
- Conduct any other functions specified by the State Ombudsman.
