Data to be submitted by hospitals
This regulation requires that hospitals submit a number of different types of data to DHS.
- Uncompensated health care plan
o Data to be collected includes procedures the hospital uses to determine a patient's ability to pay for health care, hospital's means of disseminating information about charity care available to the public, amount of state loans
o The regulation also includes specific data verification, review and comment verification procedures
- Hospital fiscal survey
o Data to be collected includes revenue, expenses, assets, liabilities, funds, accrued charges for uncompensated care, anticipated uncompensated care charges, audited financial statements, etc.
o The regulation further sets forth specific data submission procedures and procedures for data verification, review and comment
- Annual survey of hospitals
o Data to be collected includes ownership information for the hospital, accreditations and certifications, contract with prepaid health plans, number of patients using services, number of beds, inpatient utilization by government payers, etc.
o The regulation further sets forth specific data submission procedures and procedures for data verification, review and comment
- Published notices of hospital rate increases or charges in excess of rates
o Data to be collected includes all newspaper notices and affidavits of publication
- Uniform inpatient discharge data
o Hospitals have to submit 28 data elements for each of their patients including patient's zip code, date, gender, admission information, discharge status, payer information, race and ethnicity
o The regulation further sets forth specific data submission procedures and procedures for data verification, review and comment
- Emergency Department Data
o Hospitals have to submit 31 data elements for each of their patients from their emergency departments
o The regulation further sets forth specific data submission procedures and procedures for data verification, review and comment
- Ambulatory surgical data
o Hospital affiliated ambulatory surgical centers are required to report a list of 20 data elements (including patient medical record, race, ethnicity, gender, physician license information, etc) for a number of different types of procedures conducted in the centers
