Patient records for inpatients must include the patient’s occupation (if possible to obtain) or the industry in which the patient was employed at the time of admission. If the patient’s admission to the hospital is related to his/her current or past occupation, the hospital physician must collect this information from the patient or family for the medical record. However, the law specifies that it is not required to collect this information from a patient who chooses not to disclose his or her occupation.
