Abuse and neglect record held by the department of elderly affairs or any other Rhode Island agency are confidential and are not considered public records in accordance with Rhode Island’s public records law. However, the director may disclose information from the records as needed to investigate abuse and neglect reports, provide victims with services or protection, and prosecute offenders. Permissible recipients of such information include the attorney general, federal and state police officials, courts, agencies, and medical professionals.
