The state of New Mexico has passed a Hospital Acquired Infection Act, which calls for the creation of a hospital acquired infection advisory committee within the Department of Health. The duties of the committee include the following:
- Establish criteria and policies for the reporting of hospital acquired infections;
- Work with hospitals for surveillance of hospital acquired infections;
- Develop objectives and standards for a statewide program of surveillance of hospital acquired infections;
- Identify infections that must be reported;
- Make recommendations for training and education of prevention of hospital acquired infections;
- Develop and disseminate reports on hospital acquired infections;
