Reporting of a case or suspect case of a notifiable disease by a hospital fulfills the requirements of the health care provider to report. Hospitals shall make a good effort to meet the technologic standards provided by the Division to report notifiable diseases electronically and syndromic surveillance data. Reports of diseases not specified as notifiable disease, should be reported if the disease occur in a nosocomial disease outbreak situation, which may significantly impact the public health. A clinical or hospital laboratory must also report to the Department of Health and Social Services’ Division of Public Health information on any patient who is infected with antibiotic resistant organisms. The report must contain the patient’s contact information, date of birth, race, ethnicity, sex, and the patient’s medical information.
