Health Information Privacy: Law, Policy, and the Patient - Presentation for 2013 ECRI Annual Conference

This presentation provides a general overview of the federal and state laws and regulations that govern patient privacy in the context of big data. The slides include information challenging common misconceptions about legal barriers to the exchange of patient information, and how those who wish to use patient information can leverage existing laws and regulations to access patient data. The slides were used in a presentation by Jane Hyatt Thorpe at the 2013 ECRI Annual Conference.
