Health Information & the Law Standing Committee member, Eric Goplerud was interviewed and quoted in a Wall Street Journal article entitled, "Drug Treatment Swept Up in Push for Medical-Records Sharing," on June 4, 2014. The article relates to the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration's (SAMHSA) consideration of revising its regulations that define consent. 42 C.F.R. Part 2 are the regulations in question, and they protect substance abuse treatment records from being disclosed to anyone without the patient's explicit consent. SAMHSA is holding a town hall meeting on June 11, 2014 to gather more information and decide how to proceed on this issue.
