On Tuesday, June 2, 2015, the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) announced that private and commercial sector researchers will soon be able to access CMS data stores. Originally, CMS data was only available to researchers who were not developing commercial products. All data released to companies will protect patient information. CMS hopes that this new policy "will lead to additional innovation and insights," allowing researchers to rapidly assess the health care delivery system. CMS' announcement can be found here.
