On January 19, 2017, the Department of Health and Human Services, along with 10 other federal departments and 5 federal agencies that have adopted the Common Rule, published a Final Rule modifying and finalizing changes to the Common Rule as proposed in a Notice of Proposed Rulemaking (NPRM) issued on September 8, 2015 (that NPRM is available here). The Final Rule seeks to modernize and simplify oversight of federally-supported human subjects research; its provisions go into effect on January 19, 2018.
