The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) released its Disparities and Inequalities Report for 2013 on November, 21, 2013. The report highlights differences in mortality and disease risk for several conditions based on access to health care, behaviors, and social determinants of health. The report enables policymakers to better target health programs and improve health equity at the federal, state, and local levels. Additionally, the report emphasizes the need for better and more consistent data on items lacking in health surveys, such as disability status or sexual orientation. The report also notes that the Affordable Care Act's (ACA) development of uniform data collection standards will encourage these efforts.
